Honestly, who doesn’t love Wikipedia?
There’s a saying, “If it isn’t on Wikipedia, it doesn’t exist.” While I’m not sure this always holds true, there is definitely a world of information and countless random facts on this great site. From strange to stranger, Wikipedia never fails to amuse us.
Find out the best Wikipedia finds ever. We’ve collected the best of the best, so here they are!
Cuteness in Japanese Culture: There is so much cuteness to be found in Japanese culture. Cute gets taken to the next level. Pikachu and friends fly through the skies as they adorn the sides of Japanese aircrafts ”All Nippon Airways”. Politics gets cute as the Ruling National Liberal Party in Japan’s official symbol is a cute cartoon of two kids chasing the sun. There is so much cuteness. There is even a line of Sanrio condoms! What will they think of next? Wikipedia never fails to find the unusual.
Bill Gates Fly: I’ve heard of famous celebrities getting beautiful flowers named after them, but what about insects? Bill Gates has a fly named after him. Yes a fly. It’s called the Bill Gates Flower Fly. Most of us probably will never see this rare insect, as it lives only in Costa Rica.
Raining Cats and Dogs: Apparently it actually can rain cats and dogs. Well actually, more like fish and frogs. There is a strange phenomenon where animals actually fall from the sky! The image of frogs and fish that drop from the skies is completely surreal. I can’t believe this actually happens.
Triskaidekaphobia: I’ve heard of people being afraid of the occasional math test, but this takes fear of numbers to a new extreme. Triskaidekaphobia is the fear of the number 13. People with this phobia will go to extreme measures to avoid all things thirteen related.
Alien Hand Syndrome: Yes, there really is a condition where hands don’t listen to their owners. With Alien hand syndrome and the hand appears to have a mind of its own. It will do what it wants do, oblivious to its respectful ”owner”. Before Wikipedia, I thought this was just an urban legend. I guess the lesson of the day is be good to your hands.
Linda Medina: If you thought Jamie Lynn Spears was a young mom, wait to you hear about Lina Medina. At age 5 she is the world’s youngest mom in medical history! Honestly, I didn’t even know this was possible!
Fingernails Scraping Chalkboard: The noise of fingernails scraping is horrible, but did you know that studies show their are are 15 sounds that humans actually ranked worse? Still this sound is bad enough to score its
own Wikipedia page. Apparently this noise is similar to the warning call or one of our primate ancestors. Hmm chalkbords and monkey screams.. Who knew!
Pimpmobile: Its the Pimpmobile! We all know it and love it, but Wikipedia actually has a page for it! Wikipedia is such a G. Nuff said!
