Movie Must Sees! Reasons to Hit the Theatres Over Winter Break

Buzz, College Life

superstar_movieThe thought of finals week makes me cringe. Really, really unhappily cringe. I mean, do we need an entire week of torture? If you’re anything like me you’re plagued with the I-always-have-a- final-on-the-last-possible-day-after -everyone-is-gone curse. AWESOME! But let’s not be too pessimistic. We do have winter break to look forward to. A few weeks of freedom! A few weeks of reuniting with old friends! A few weeks of mom’s home-cooking! A few weeks of holidays and presents galore! Basically, a few weeks to do whatever we want.

This is the perfect time to catch up on all the blockbuster hits in theaters. ‘Cause I know you didn’t have time between studying for finals. And if you did… you might have a problem. Anyway, winter break is coming and it’ll soon be time to grab a pal, splurge on some 24987382$ popcorn/candy/soda, and check out a good flick. Here’s a few I will most definitely be checking out:

MILK (December 5)

This film cannot be denied. It tells the story of Harvey Milk—California’s first elected openly gay official who was assassinated. Doesn’t sound interesting to you? Look at this cast: Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Emile Hirsche, and James Franco. Still not interested?! It’s directed by Gus Van Sant. Honestly, with that cast and and that director this movie has O-S-C-A-R written all over it. Don’t believe me?! Watch the trailer:

THE SPIRIT (December 25)

I don’t know about anyone else, but I’ve been waiting for Sin City 2. I mean, I feel like it was over two years ago I first heard about it and still nothing. What’s the deal? Well, here’s The Spirit to hold us over until Sin City 2’s 2010 release. The Spirit is directed by Frank Miller (sans Robert Rodriquez) and is based on a 1940’s comic book series by Will Eisner. The plot revolves around Denny Colt, “the spirit”, set on fighting crime in the city. I’m a bit skeptical, but that’s not going to stop me from checking it out!

THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PYJAMAS (November 14)

Certainly doesn’t appear to be the most joyful film of the season—described as “utterly devastating”, but something worth seeing. The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas tell the story of Bruno, the young son of a concentration camp commandant who befriends a Jewish boy in the camp. Yes, I know. It sounds depressing, but remember… so are a lot of great movies! Check it out! Just don’t forget your tissues.

TWILIGHT (November 21)

Was anyone else wondering why there were 49328493258743 facebook bumper stickers proclaiming undying love for EDWARD CULLEN? Only to be scolded for not knowing it was for TWILIGHT! Based on the best selling novel, Twilight tells the story of Bella, a teenage girl who falls in love with a vampire—Edward Cullen (who is played by Robert Patterson AKA Cedric Diggory from the Harry Potter movies AKA HOT). Okay. So, it sounds a little pre-teen and girly, but don’t you wanna know what all the hype is about? I know I do. But I refuse to see it before I read the book, so I better get on that.

QUANTUM OF SOLACE (November 14)

Okay, I’ll admit: I’m not very up on my James Bond. This is not to say I don’t like the movies. I mean, for the past couple years I’ve been swearing to myself I would watch the whole series—from Sean Connery to Daniel Craig. I just haven’t found the time. So, maybe I will this winter break… And afterwards I’ll check out the newest installation, Quantum of Solace.

There it is! Five flicks to see over winter break to relieve yourself of that finals week stress! If you’re looking for a more holiday oriented movie, check out Four Christmases. You can’t go wrong with Vince Vaughn!

Have you went to see a great movie lately? Can’t wait to hit the theaters? Let me know & comment!
