College Life, Guys & Girls

e-gall-swayze-grey-395x298If you’re in college and drink with the mindset that all of the breweries across the globe are about to shut down, chances are you’ve been in a setting where everyone around you was belting out an embarrassing song. Often regarded as a pop culture myth, we diligent collegiate scholars are proud to set the record straight. It happens.

Another myth is the “Dance-off.” This amazing experience often appears in trendier movies aimed at younger audiences — where two people challenge each other to a death match of dance. Here is a compilation of tunes that, if given the chance, are sure to start a dancing war:

1. “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)” by Michael Jackson

Listen for Alvin and the Chipmunks cameo toward the end of the song. They really should get a “featuring credit” like Puff Daddy, I mean Diddy, err… what is his name this year? Anyway, like he did back in the 90’s.

2. “D.A.N.C.E.” by Justice

Children’s choir in the background? Yes Please.

3. “The Stroke” by Billy Squier

An 80’s classic. This could be a defining in anyone’s dancing career.

4. “I Wish” by Skee-Lo

Doesn’t everyone wish they had ”a rabbit in a hat with a bat and a ‘64 Impala”?

5. “867-5309 (Jenny)” by Tommy Tutone

A myth in itself, still, catchy as hell, and makes you want to know Jenny.

6. “Fascination” by Human League

Made memorable in the movie Fever Pitch.

7. “Poison” by Bell Biv Devoe

Watch this. Enough said.

8. “Two Minute Warning” by Depeche Mode

This might be the perfect song for robot-ing.

9. “Danger! High Voltage!” by Electric Six

Pay homage to the glowing crotch!

10. “Dare” by Gorillaz

Second in line for best robot-ing song.

11. “Breakin’ Up” by Rilo Kiley

How is this not a radio hit?

12. “I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’” by the Scissor Sisters

Just ignore the fact that they used this song to promote the show Private Practice.

So break out your best dancin shoes, whether they give you blisters or not, and throw out a challenge!

Have another dance song to add to the list?  Let us know.
