Thirteen Thrillers That Will Make You Scream!

Yes, it’s that time of year to get in the Halloween frame of mind. After the stress of actually finding an absolutely incredible and unique costume (if you’re having trouble: Top Five Halloween Costumes for Guys and Girls or Cheesy Couple Costumes), you’re ready to dive into the seasonal activities. Maybe you’re a fan of carving pumpkins or diving for apples - though we119319165_1bb4b517a3 are probably all in agreement that although those activities can be entertaining, you aren’t touching on the best part of Halloween - BEING SCARED. If you want to seriously partake in this scary season you should definitely go to haunted houses. Though if you aren’t in the mood to escape from your dorm or apartment - do the next best thing: watch Horror films.

We all know Horror films are an essential part of Halloween. Some people love them and others, well, not so much. In terms of scary movies - people are divided into a few categories. Maybe you are the person who can sit through an entire thriller without moving a muscle (aka you’re either frozen in fear or somehow able to contain yourself). If you can’t sit still - you’re on the edge of the couch ready to scream at the creak of a door (this would be me, I have to say). Or finally, you may be the person who absolutely refuses to even come close to thrillers (what’s the fun in that?).

I’ve come up with what may be the Top Thirteen Thrillers of All Time:

1. The Omen

There was a remake of this film, though the 1976 release of this film is absolutely horrifying. Revolving around the son of Satan, this film is one to give you intense nightmares.

2. The Shining

In my opinion, this may be one of the most classic horror movies! If you haven’t seen it yet, I recommend it for this Halloween season. You can’t help but be scared when watching this. I mean who wouldn’t be completely terror-stricken if stuck in a deserted hotel with Jack Nicholson???

3. Dawn of the Dead

Typically sequels are never as good as the first, though in this case, the theory doesn’t hold true. Produced in 1978, this classic horror involves zombies and tons of blood. Set in Philadelphia, the dead come back to life and four people attempt to save themselves from a zombie fate.

4. The Exorcist

Everyone has heard of this film, though its just a matter of getting up the courage to watch it. Similar to The Omen, a young girl has been overtaken by the devil. Both horrifying and disturbing - this film can also give you nightmares.

5. Rosemary’s Baby

This film may not be as widely known, though in my opinion is extremely terrifying. Rosemary and her husband move to a new apartment to find that they have intriguing, yet creepy neighbors. Rosemary soon becomes pregnant and the plot begins to thicken. Quite the thriller - I recommend if you aren’t an extreme fan of horror films to maybe stay clear of this one.

6. Psycho

The shower scene. Enough said.

7. The Silence of the Lambs

Now being a Pittsburgh native, I walk past where the filming occurred for this movie on a day to day basis. This film revolves around a psychopathic cannibalistic serial killer - obviously horrifying.

8. The Blair Witch Project

The ultimate teen horror film. Three students enter into the woods to capture footage about an ancient urban legend and never return. A year later, their footage is found and the urban legend becomes a truth. Absolutely freaky.

9. Event Horizon

This is a lesser-known movie on this list, though nonetheless extremely scary. A space ship goes into hell and back - what could be scarier than that?

10. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

I had to add one of these absurd killing movies to the list. Many other film deals with demons and absolutely horrifying topics. This film is extremely gory and gruesome and if you’re not in the mood for an intense slasher movie - skip over this one!

11. Halloween

Again, there can’t be a top thriller list without Halloween! Michael Myers is an all-time scary movie character. Another slasher film (yet maybe not as intense as The Texas Chain Saw Massacre).

12. Friday the 13th

Clueless camp counselors + crazy murderer.

13. Jaws

I don’t know about you, but sharks absolutely scare me. And not to mention the theme song! I’m sure you’ve all seen or at least heard of this film and although it’s not as much of a thriller as the others on this list, I guarantee people are afraid to watch it!

Any others that you would like to add? Let us know below!
